01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
In the quiet residential neighbourhood of Minami-Magome, the table at Le Pétale soon fills with seasonal vegetables presented in a range of forms. Fresh produce delivered directly from farms is prepared in several ways within a single dish, from purées and mousses to fragrant roasts. The colourful arrangements evoke the petals in the restaurant’s name. Potage that draws out the savoury character of seasonal vegetables, and dishes pairing fish or meat with vegetable-based sauces, are satisfying without feeling heavy. House-made bread, just right for mopping up the sauces, makes a welcome part of the meal.
Desserts and petits fours to round off the course
Dessert is another highlight after the main course. A full course often includes two dessert courses, with one dish bringing the meal’s savoury flavours towards sweetness through the aroma and gentle bitterness of vegetables such as Manganji peppers, butterbur shoots and tomatoes. A dessert centred on seasonal fruit follows, its delicate balance of sweetness and acidity making a lasting impression.
After the meal, coffee or tea comes with several carefully made petits fours, such as guimauves, tarts and monaka, served in small dishes. The drinks list includes wines from across France, beer from Omori Sanno Brewery and house-made lemonade, among other choices, giving diners plenty to consider alongside the food and desserts. The calm dining room has comfortably spaced tables, and baby chairs and a children’s menu are available. It offers a relaxed setting for anything from a celebration to a family meal, with time to savour the course.
